Today we marked #WindWeekWales at Senedd Cymru with the Cross Party Group on Renewable and Low Carbon Energy to debate the future of grid infrastructure 🗣️
Chaired by Huw Irranca-Davies, with interesting views from Ofgem’s Director of Infrastructure and Security of Supply, Akshay Kaul, Peter McCrory, Networks and Charging Policy Manager at RenewableUK and Jessica Hooper, Director RenewableUK Cymru 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
The case for #renewables in Wales was made clear, as was the significant economic potential if Wales can grasp the opportunity to be a pioneering global #greenenergy powerhouse 🍃
Great to hear Akshay outline OFGEM’s priorities for grid – a shift to system planning, a focus on long range targets and network build out at pace, and delivery of a flexible, intelligent system.
OFGEM is keen on building its presence in Wales and it was reassuring to hear their desire to engage with the Welsh Government on system planning and delivering the connections we need for onshore and offshore generation.
We need to deliver renewables and #grid infrastructure at scale and at pace – a position the industry understands, but political leadership is needed to get people and #communities on board 🙌🏻
