The Towy Teifi scheme which will connect Bute Energy’s Lan Fawr Energy Park, which is being developed on land north of Lampeter, to the east of Llanddewi Brefi. The proposed route would see it passing near the communities of Lampeter, Llanllwni, Alltwalis and Rhydargaeau, then east of Carmarthen crossing both the A40 and A48 to a National Grid substation at Llandyfaelog south of Carmarthen. Adam Price sees this as a reason for making undergrounding a priority:
“There is a sense of urgency now to establish a clear policy framework for these developments. Undergrounding needs to be given clear status as the transmission method for these connections to the grid, in line with the practice we are seeing across Europe. The pace at which more developments are being proposed runs a real risk that the Welsh Government will find themselves responding too late. We’ve seen a proposed route through the Tywi Valley, and now we have here an indication that the Teifi could follow suit. The local feeling on this matter is clear – these lines need to be put underground. I implore the Welsh Government to issue a policy directive to safeguard Carmarthenshire’s most culturally sensitive landscapes.”
